I need a good exercise for the back?

i am what you would call pleasantly plump and then some. i am diet and exercise but when it comes to exercising i am incapable of doing many push-ups as though i can push up easily at that point my back starts going down hurts and after around 10 i have to take a 10 minute break. any suggestions?
